Media Theories

Today we have learnt about different music video theories,
Firstly we looked at Andrew Goodwin's theory. This is a theory showing how the music video demonstrates genre characteristics ie. the right mise en scene. Also it says how there is a relationship between the visuals and the lyrics, this could be done with words shown in the scene. Also that there is a relationship between the music and the visuals. So the tone and the tone and atmosphere of the music is reflected in the video.

We then looked at Laura Mulvey theory. Her theory is that women are used in music videos as a male gaze. This theory suggests that the camera/audience always represents a hetrosexual man's perspective of a scene objectifying women. Another part of her male gaze theory suggests that wwomen are only portrayed as one of two possiblities.
