Today's Media Lesson

Today we learnt about the different technical codes and conventions.
We learnt that they one of the earliest music videos was by Bob Dylan - Subterrean Homesick Blues. It wasn't until the mid 1980's until it was standard the every song has a music video to go with it.

In this video we see that there is a large link between the music video and the lyrics. The lyrics are shown on peices of card throughout the music video and this is the only storyline throughout the video. It is similar to the modern day Coldplay song i commented on in a previous post only that the modern day one uses stop motion to show the next word whereas in this one they drop a peice of card. This music video only uses one camera angle and is filmed in one go unlike modern music videos which are filmed using different angles, lighting, clips, effects, locations and other props and actors.

We also learnt that some artists follow a very similar route for all of there videos. For example we looked at Dido.

Dido - Thank you

In this video we see dido mainly in close ups or when long shots panning with her. The main effect used in this music video is the fade. Almost all of the way through this video she only uses the fade effect. The music video has two storylines. I then looked at Dido's song White Flag. This uses very similar camera shots, editing transitions and lighting effects.
